You can place bets using a variety of different methods that TAB offers.
Online!
You can place a bet online on horseracing, soccer or rugby on this site.
Opening an Account
Click "Open an Account", complete the form and click “SUBMIT”. The relevant details will be sent to you by sms and email and then you need to submit your FICA documents to activate the account.
The FICA documents comprise a copy of your ID and proof of residence with your street address (eg a telephone account or bank statement) not more than three months old. Alternatively call Customer Care on 0861 444 822 and a consultant will fax or email the necessary information to you.
Your online account can also be utilised for placing bets by PHONE. As a result, when you open an online account, you will also receive a telephone betting code. This is a three-letter code which must be used when placing bets by phone or to cancel any bets made on your account.
If you need to cancel a bet you must call Telebet and give the three-letter code to the operator.
Transferring Money Into your Account
There are various methods of transferring money into your TAB account.
1. Via Credit Card - for credit card deposits, new customers must fill in an indemnity form in order for TAB to transfer the funds from the credit card to the betting account.
2. At a TAB - visit any Phumelela TAB and deposit at any teller. The minimum deposit is R50 and you will need your account number.
3. At your Bank - Money can be deposited into TAB’s bank account at any of the major banks. Full details are available online, once you’ve registered and logged in.
Betting Online
It’s easy to bet online once your account has been enabled and you have deposited money. Login on the home page and start playing!
Once you are logged in, select the meeting and the race on which you want to bet and the bet type. All TAB bet types can be taken online.
Example:
To take a Win bet, click on "WN" next to the race on which you want to bet. The runners for that race will display and you can then take a Win bet on one or more of them. Enter the amount you wish to wager on each horse selected and click on "Enquire Bet". Your bets are then displayed - click on "Place Bet" to process the bet or "Change Bet Slip" if you want to change your wager.
By Phone!
Telebetting 0861 000 822
With a telephone betting account and a phone, you can take bets with a TAB call centre from anywhere. Over R500 million is won on the horses by phone every year!
Betting by phone is easy, private and secure and you can use your credit card or EFT to deposit money into your account.

Take your first bet by phone
Contact Customer Care on 0861 444 822. We’ll fax or post an application form to you. Return the completed form to us with your FICA documentation. We’ll call you with the account and pin numbers. Deposit at least R50 into the account - by credit card (minimum R200 deposit), at a TAB or by electronic bank transfer.
Take a bet
Call 0861 000 822 and give the operator your account number. You’ll be asked for your telephone betting code and then you can bet.
Example:
“Turffontein Race 6 R20 Win No 6”. The operator will call the bet back. Listen carefully because those details are the bet that will be keyed into the tote betting system.
The credit balance in your account is always available for betting (subject to the R6 minimum per single bet). When you win, you can withdraw money at a TAB or by electronic bank transfer.
NB: As per Tote Rules and regulations, you can only withdraw on winnings and not deposits (see Tote Rules for more).
At a TAB!
