TAB customers are able to watch and bet on the cream of horseracing across the globe. In addition to South African races daily, TAB operates betting on races from more than a dozen countries including the UK, Australia, Dubai, France, Hong Kong, Mauritius, Singapore and the USA.
TAB also offers various soccer bets, including its foundation bet Soccer 6, Soccer 10 and Soccer 13 (hosted by Svenska Spel in Sweden). Plus there’s the exciting fusion bet, Soccer GG, which combines the worlds of horseracing and soccer.
Unlike fixed-odds betting, payouts on tote bets are determined by dividing the number of winning tickets into the total pool after the statutory commissions and taxes have been deducted. Consequently the tote odds on any bet type change constantly until the race starts and the pools are closed. All horseracing payouts displayed are to a R1 unit and include the original R1 stake. The units vary with soccer and rugby bets.
All tote bets in South Africa are commingled (combined) into single national pools under the TAB banner. Many pools on international races are commingled with the host tote. TAB hosts the global tote pools on the Dubai World Cup Carnival and the Dubai World Cup race meeting.

Pools are commingled through JSE-listed Phumelela’s tote betting system, which was developed and is maintained by USA company Amtote. Provincial gambling boards regulate tote betting and all tote equipment is South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) approved.
